Yatming #1079 ’57 Corvette: Red
This Red ’57 Corvette actually belonged to my sister (and I imagine some day I’ll have to make an effort to get it back to her.) I remember the opening doors making it a popular choice at playtime.
This example is red with white side tampos, blue tinted windows, and standard wheels. It features a bare metal base and chrome plastic bumpers, though in this instance most of the bumpers have broken away.
There are several wheel and window variations of this casting as well a similar casting (#1039) with fixed doors.
Tomica Volkswagen Microbus: 1977 F29 (Red and White)
This casting of a VW Microbus is released by Tomica in Japan. It features an opening side door and an impressive level of detail. Because of its Japanese origins, the steering wheel is on the right.
This 1977 release is red with a white roof and door. I found this example buried in the bottom of a rummage sale box. The top sill of the door had broken, but I was able to repair it with super glue.
Majorette Jeep Cherokee Ambulance: 269 White and Blue
Released during the 1980s, this Jeep Cherokee has been fitted with a raised roof and extended back for all-terrain ambulance duty. It features rear doors that open to reveal a detailed interior including a stretcher-bound patient under a blanket.
I have a white version that I picked up as a child. It’s painted white and is accented with blue hood graphics and side strips surrounding the word “Ambulance”.
Hot Wheels BMW M1: 1983 #3289 Real Riders
The initial 1983 release: Perhaps the most valuable of the lot, the original release was in red. Yellow/white/black stripe tampos bear the BMW name. It sits on Goodyear Real Riders with gray hubs under a painted metal base. A chrome engine is revealed under the rear hood.
Matchbox Beetle 4×4: 2002 Rescue Chiefs 5-Pack
This release from 2002 was part of the Rescue Chiefs 5-pack and does not appear to have been carded individually. It’s yellow with black/blue/gold decoration, blue tinted windows, blue interior, blue plastic base and roof lights, and 5-spoke oval wheels.
This casting features an opening hood.
